As one would look into Medusa hideous, raged eyes they would turn into stone. It didn't matter if you were young or old, male or female. She was feared by many people because of this effect she had on people. She was like a car crash, you just couldn't help but stare.

I think your understanding and grounding is really basic. To really understand Medusa you should take a look into the full on mythology of her and take a look at feminist literary criticism. In one version of the myth: She was a powerful woman who was in love with Poseidon. To spite Poseidon and exact her revenge she cursed the woman and her two sisters and turned their hair to snakes and cursed them to be forever alone as everyone they saw with a lover's gaze would turn to stone. The became known as the gorgon, but individually the name Medusa became infamous.
ReplyDeleteI'm including three sites that you should check out if you really want to begin your journey with Medusa.

While two of the three are not scholarly sources, they do have some interesting perspectives.
